Northern Vietnam is a real highlight for the adventurous traveler. This is an area with a high concentration of ethnic minorities, from the White Thai in the Mai Chau area to the Red Dzao and Hmong around Sapa. They often visit village markets which are always a nice and very colorful. The area around the eco resort Pan Hou (Hoang Su Phi district) is very suitable for hiking in the spring and autumn. You will also see some beautiful Dazo villages in the green hills that are rarely visited by tourists. The district of Ha Giang is a new discovery. This area is characterized by a particularly high karst mountain landscape. The livestock market in Meo Vac and the smaller market in Dong Van will introduce you to many Black Hmong and Black Dzao people. In these markets the Hmong men still wear their traditional black woven jackets, a rarer and rarer sight! We advise you as to plan the trip so that day 1 falls on a Saturday, so you can visit most weekly markets on the way. The markets are must-see events that make your trip through north Vietnam much more complete.
