MoneyRussia's national currency is the Ruble. There are 10, 50, 100, 1000, 5000 paper notes; coins of 10 and 50 kopeks, 1, 5 and 10 rubles.
Until recently, the US Dollar was the currency of choice to take and still is accepted everywhere, though in recent years the Euros also has become equally as well accepted.
In Russia you can change money in many places: either in any bank or at ATM from credit card. All big cities and some villages as well accept credit cards (Visa, Mastercard). ATMs are everywhere in the streets. In the smaller places it may be more difficult, but not a problem. Please have some cash all the time.
Tips
Tipping is not widely spread in Russia, though has recently become common in the larger cities frequented by foreign visitors. In restaurants you can leave tips of 10%.
Time difference
In Russia there are eleven time zones.
Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Karelia is two hours later than Europe in the summer, winter is three hours. (UTC +3)
Yekaterinburg is UTC+5
Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, the Altai and Sayan mountains UTC+7
Baikal lake UTC +8
Yakutia UTC +9
Vladivostok UTC +10
Kamchatka and Chukotka UTC+12
