Rugged mountain route from Srinagar to Zanskar and Ladakh

A trip for the true adventurer; this journey is an adventure to Kashmir, Ladakh and Zanskar. You will begin your trip in Kashmir, one of the most beautiful valleys of India. For years it has been inaccessible but now the dust has settled. You will sleep on a houseboat in Srinagar. Via a beautiful land route you will travel further into the valley of Zanskar, one of the most inaccessible valleys in the Indian Himalayas. Zanskar is situated at an altitude, between 3500 and 4500 meters. Because of the inaccessibility and the imposing beauty of the rugged landscape Zanskar is known as a kind of mystical Shangri la. You will find beautiful and often spectacular monasteries. The center is the site of Zanskar Padum (3500 meters) and this place is your home base for trips to the main monasteries in the area. One of the oldest monasteries Sani, about 10 kilometers outside of Padum. The monastery dates back to the 8th century. The main monastery is that of Karsha. Please note that in Zanskar your will have to take long walks  to the monasteries. From Zanskar  you will continue your journey traveling to continue through rugged mountain landscape Leh, capital of Ladakh. En route visit include the special monasteries of Lamayuru and Alchi.

Festival tip: In Ladakh and Zanskar you can find annual colorful festivals in the various monasteries. Early in September is the annual festival in Leh Ladakhi. During the monastery festivals there are music and dance (cham dance) of the monastic site. If possible, we will try to fit the festival into your trip.

You travel in small international groups. Of course you can request a private tour as well.
