One of the lesser known but interesting regions of India is Gujarat. It lies between Mumbai and Rajasthan. It is one of the more prosperous parts of the country. There are a lot Jains and logically you will find many Jain temples. Gujarat is known as the last abode of Asiatic lions, although the chance to see them are extremely small. There also live several colorful tribes such as the Ravari, Harijians, Ghats, Ahirs and Rathwa. Also visit the former Portuguese colony of Diu, where you can relax on the beach.Spend the night in charming heritage hotels, often maintained by the local maharajas.
