The most complete route through Bhutan runs from the west to the little-visited east. The journey starts in Paro, where you arrive by plane and have a spectacular view. You will visit the most important places in the west, including the capital of Thimpu, Paro, the magnificent dzongs of Punakha and Trongsa, and the beautiful Bumthang Valley. Farther east the landscape becomes more rugged, full of jagged mountains with narrow roads that wind along steep cliffs. The eastern villages where you stay are compactly built on ridges rather than scattered across valleys as you see in the west. Your journey through the east ends at the Indian border at Samdrup Jonkghar, where the plains belonging to the Indian state of Assam begin. From here you can fly from the Guwahati Airport to Delhi, Kolkata or any other destination in India.We recommend that plan your travel dates so you can experience a festival in Bhutan, a colorful highlight of any trip.
